TAPoR@UVic - Applying to TAPoR
Research Protocol
Researchers interested in using the TAPoR@UVic infrastructure are invited to apply to TAPoR. The application form is intended for lead researchers associated with the University
of Victoria. External researchers who wish to be affiliated with TAPoR@UVic are invited to contact Ray Siemens (siemens@uvic.ca), the Principal Investigator, or Peter Liddell (pgl@uvic.ca), the Research Director.
Eligibility
Projects proposed by researchers in the original CFI application are assumed to be accepted for support. Researchers interested in joining TAPoR@UVic are invited to submit a project proposal via the application form. The Research Director, along with a Local Review Board, will evaluate the proposal and make recommendations based on the following criteria:
- Excellence of the proposed research and fit with the TAPoR mandate, as described in the application and other TAPoR documents
- Technical feasibility of the research and its application within the TAPoR infrastructure.
- Track record of the project researcher
Project proposals most likely to fit with TAPoR@UVic have development potential in one or more areas of the four initiatives identified in the Initiatives section of the website. With each proposal, the Review Board also considers the project's potential to make use of or generate re-usable code or tools that will aide in the creation of TAPoR tools library.
Reporting
Project leaders will be expected to provide the following information to TAPoR@Uvic at regular intervals:
- Description of the project activities for TAPoR promotional purposes
- Updates on the project on a pre-agreed schedule so that the PI, R&D and HCMC Coordinator are aware of the use of the infrastructure
- URLs for project WWW pages to which the TAPoR Home Page should link
- Information facilitated by TAPoR. Copies of publications or news articles would be appreciated
- Copies of grant applications that name TAPoR as a research infrastructure to which the applicant has access
Acknowledgement
Researchers who use the infrastructure will be expected to give credit to TAPoR in public performances, publications, presentations, and online projects where appropriate. In all cases, the name of the TAPoR project and the URL for the home page should be provided in acknowledgement.
Research Support
TAPoR is intended to provide infrastructure upon which researchers can build specific projects and on which they can count for support when pursuing grants. If a researcher intends to apply for a grant, naming TAPoR@Uvic as an available resource, the applicant is asked to contact the TAPoR Project Leader to discuss the proposal.
TAPoR will write letters of support for other projects, if the following conditions are met:
- The project leader or his/her designate is given sufficient time to prepare the letter
- A reasonably current version of the proposal is made available
- The research is in the area the TAPoR infrastructure was designed to support
- Should the proposed project plan on utilizing TAPoR infrastructure it will be treated like any other request (see above). Should the proposed use of infrastructure conflict with other projects or place a strain on the infrastructure, projects will be prioritized using the criteria above (see Eligibility)
Intellectual Property Rights Statement
By filling out the required form and submitting it, you, as Principal Researcher in the named project, take responsibility for securing the intellectual property rights of all materials made available through the TAPoR research infrastructure associated with The Project. Neither the TAPoR project nor the affiliated Universities are to be held responsible in the event that intellectual property rights regarding the materials associated with your work or that of The Project are disputed. You also understand that TAPoR and TAPoR Universities have the right to remove materials without prior notice as long as they inform The Project Leader in a timely fashion. You understand that materials can be removed that are disputed or which do not fit the research mandate of the project. You absolve the TAPoR Universities and the TAPoR project of any liability for the loss of time or materials due to unforeseen technical problems of the termination of the TAPoR project.
